Michael is a Physical Therapist and Board-Certified Clinical Specialist in Orthopedic Physical Therapy (OCS) who grew up in Corvallis, Oregon. He started racing bicycles in high school, eventually leading him to Colorado State University, where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Health and Exercise Science while also competing at the collegiate level with the cycling team. While in college, Michael was heavily involved in biomechanics research with student athletes, and chose to pursue a career in physical therapy after personal experience recovering from a hip injury that kept him from competing. He subsequently earned his Doctorate in Physical Therapy from the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus in 2021. Michael worked along the front range of Colorado for several years following graduation, refining his practice under mentorship from multiple Fellows of the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapy. Ultimately he felt drawn back to the PNW, moving here in January of 2025 and joining the Lake Washington Physical Therapy team.
Michael’s athletic pursuits have shifted away from racing bicycles and towards enjoying the great outdoors. His endurance sport background has led him to become an avid trail runner and snowboarder, and he likes to backpack, rock climb, and mountain bike as time allows. He tries to spend as much time as he can in the mountains!
Michael’s board certification means that he emphasizes applying the most current, evidence-based interventions to help his patients. As an outdoor athlete himself, Michael particularly enjoys working with runners, skiers/snowboarders, climbers, and cyclists/mountain bikers. He personally understands the impact that injuries and pain can have on these activities, affecting not just physical but mental health. He strives to help his patients return to the activities that they enjoy.
Additionally, Michael has expertise working with those experiencing chronic pain in all facets of life. He has lectured regularly about managing persistent and chronic pain, including conditions such as fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome. Michael believes that every person deserves to be heard and he promotes an active, personalized approach unique to each situation.
Michael lives in Bothell with his partner, Rachel. He is excited to be part of the Lake Washington Physical Therapy team and looks forward to helping you achieve your goals!
